Why you should “Ruck”

RUCK • ING [VERB] // Walking with a weighted rucksack (aka backpack). It implies action, energy, and purpose. Rucking requires strength, endurance, and character — and builds it, too.

Ruck - Military Rucking

The term “Ruck” is synonymous with the military but has slowly been gaining traction in the civilian sector. Also known as a “Hump” or “Forced March”, the simple definition of “Ruck” is simply walking or moving fast with a loaded bag or backpack from point A to point B. A great example is backpack camping, which at its core is a Ruck.

Rucking is the foundation of Special Forces training. Especially within the Army Green Berets, who are well versed in shouldering heavy fucks through cities, mountains, jungles, and deserts during war and peace. Rucking isn’t just for the Elite Special Forces, any average person can start trucking.

Why Ruck?

So you may be asking yourself, “Why ruck?” Simple, Rucking is Cardio, Simple, and Scalable. The leader in the Rucking space is GoRuck. I hate running, but running is a great way to burn calories and increase your endurance. Enter Rucking! If like me you hate running, rucking can help you burn up to 3X as many calories as simply walking alone. Rucking is also very simple. Grab any backpack or rucksack. Load with some gear or weights and just start walking.

You can start rucking with little to no weight and increase as you get more comfortable and your rucks get easier. This makes rucking a scalable workout, allowing you to modify your workouts as you see fit. Rucking is great for Hunters, Hikers, Backpack Campers, and anyone who wants to increase their fitness levels.

Ruck for Fitness

A few of the health benefits are as follows. Rucking is easier on the knees than running. It can help to improve your posture if you sit all day or are constantly looking down at a screen. It can help you crush calorie goals and increase your overall strength and endurance.

Rucking is not only fun and easy, it is a great way to get in shape. It can also be a solo activity or you can get a group together and do a group ruck. There are limitless opportunities when it comes to rucking. So if you are looking to burn calories, get fit, and just have a great time. Start rucking!

If you are looking to get started, I highly recommend checking out GoRuck and have a look at their shop if you want to buy some weights or packs. And if you want to truly test yourself. Sign up for one of the GoRuck Events!

Good Luck and Go Ruck!
